Iwi, weavers, scientists, social scientists and conservationists from all over New Zealand have come together to make this project possible. We aim to combine western science with mātauranga Māori in order to research the genetic and morphological variation in pīngao across New Zealand. This information is vital for the weaving properties of the plant and for the protection and conservation of pīngao for future generations. (This includes our very own Betsy Young)
