The Coastal Restoration Trust is producing short videos focussing on coastal restoration in regions around Aotearoa.
Our two regional “how-to” educational videos build on the success of the Our Coast video series (CRT’s popular short video collection exploring the natural processes shaping Aotearoa New Zealand’s coastlines). They translate broad principles into practical steps for local communities and iwi to take action on their own coastlines – exploring local dune ecosystems and natural processes, coastal vegetation zones, local flora and fauna, human issues and impacts (such as weeds, pests and access) and cultural perspectives – along with practical restoration and management options – and showcasing examples of key restoration sites.
1. Restoring Kāpiti Coast
The Kāpiti Coast video is focussed on coastal processes, the dune ecosystem and how communities can work with the council to restore natural form and function to the Kāpiti Coast. It was produced by Southlight Studio for the Coastal Restoration Trust – in partnership with (and funded by) Kāpiti Coast District Council’s Climate Action Fund.
2. Restoring the Northland Coast
The Northland Coast video gives an overview of Taitokerau coastal areas and coastal processes, threats and restoration options, focusing on open coast dune systems. It was produced by Southlight Studio for the Coastal Restoration Trust and Northland Regional Council, with funding from the Northland Regional Council Climate Resilience Fund. Click below to learn about practical steps for local communities to care for their coastlines—covering dune ecosystems, native plants and wildlife, human impacts, and restoration examples.
