Port Waikato Beachcare Group

Aim: To enhance the local environment through dune restoration planting and native shorebird protection - New Zealand dotterel, banded dotterel and variable oystercatcher.

The group is attempting to attract Caspian terns back to the Port Waikato sand spit using decoys and sound anchors. Over the winter months the dune restoration project involves the planting of native sand-binders and coastal forest species.
