Friends of Rarawa

Date started: 2011

Purpose of group: Restore and protect the beach and dune system at Rarawa and the species living within it. The group aims to minimise environmental impacts on Rarawa Beach through community advocacy, awareness, and participation.

About the group: Friends of Rarawa have undertaken foredune and backdune planting; fenced off areas of the backdune to protect from damage from pedestrians and vehicles; and undertake extensive pest animal and plant control. Friends of Rarawa are supported by DOC and NRC and work closely with local schools and other organisations to achieve the group objectives.
