Location of main site: Mouth and estuary of Waimea Stream Waikanae and north of the stream to Oliver Grove.

Purpose of group: Dune restoration, back dune planting, predator control in conjunction with local Predator Free Group.

About the group:

We started the group about ten years ago and since then we have planted many Spinifex and Pingao plants. Our site is alongside the Waimea stream in Waikanae which initially was a man- made stream when Field Way was developed by the Fields. It is a difficult site due to the movement of the stream and the proximity of houses to the dunes. we are impacted by the strong seas. We also have done quite a bit of back dune planting- wiwi, toi toi, Ngaio, flax and muelenbekia. We spend a lot of time cutting lupins and removing agapanthus and marram grass.
