Coastal restoration: Measuring our progress

We are excited to announce details of our next conference:

The theme of our 2022 conference will be on monitoring: Coastal restoration: Measuring our progress. It will be held on 16-18 March 2022 and hosted by the AUT Department of Environmental Science. Indoor sessions will be held at AUT, City campus, Building WG, level 2, 55 Wellesley Street East, Auckland Central.

Fieldtrips will be held around the Auckland Region. These photos below are from Te Henga / Bethells Beach where we will go on Friday the 18th.

Here are a programme outline, updated fee schedule, accommodation offer, and poster for you to share or put up on the notice board, in pdf or png.

We are keen to have some highschool students attend the conference too and for this purpose we are collecting $100 donations, each of which will allow one student to attend. If you’d like to contibute to this please or donate via the widget at the very top of this page.

A regular and popular feature of our conferences is the “Regional Roundup” session, with updates on coastal restoration work happening around Aotearoa. Groups are invited to give a 5-minute talk on their coastal work. This year there will also be a separate session giving students the opportunity to give a 5-minute “lightning” presentation on their research. If you wish to give a presentation during either of these sessions please indicate that when you register. A timed PowerPoint template will be sent to all who’ve registered. This can be helpful, but it is optional to use.

An optional post-conference fieldtrip is being planned for Saturday 19 March and possibly also for Sunday the 20th. The location is yet to be finalised. Details will be posted here and sent to those indicating their interest during registration.

Keep an eye on this page where details will be posted when they become available.

In the event of cancellation due to covid restrictions, the event will be rescheduled if feasible, or attendees will be reimbursed.

Note that VACCINATION PASSES WILL BE REQUIRED to attend the conference, including all the fieldtrips. This will also apply to bus drivers, staff of AUT and facilitators. It will be a fully vaccinated event! This will mean that we can have a good number of attendees.

The conference is being made possible by the generosity and sponsorship of AUT Department of Environmental Science, Gold sponsor Biological Heritage National Science Challenge, Bronze sponsor Eagle Technology and sponsors Stories in Action, Coastlands Plant Nursery as well as a very generous anonymous donor. If you would also like to sponsor or donate to keep this conference affordable to all, please to discuss options.
